Chiropractic Treatment of MidBack (Thoracic) Pain
Mid back pain (MBP or Thoracic pain) may be as common as low back pain or neck pain however, its mild pain presentation means it isn’t often reported.
The neck is made for movement and neck injuries can be very painful. The low back is made for power and flexibility and as a result, it prone to injury.
The thoracic spine is made for stability. However, the human spine wasn’t designed to work in an office. A common cause of MBP or Thoracic pain is poor office posture. Poor office posture injuries are repetitive use injuries.
If your home office isn’t set up with ergonomics in mind, you’ll eventually experience:
- headaches
- shoulder pain
- back pain
- neck pain
- wrist pain a.k.a. carpal tunnel syndrome treatment
Notice the use of the word “eventually” above. The human body is great at adapting to whatever situation you put it in. Unfortunately, if you continue to put stress on your back, neck, shoulders, elbows and wrists with poor office posture, eventually you’ll experience the aches and pains described above.
Anyone who works in an office is susceptible to repetitive use injuries resulting in postural syndrome.
Gentle chiropractic care for mid back pain.
Gentle chiropractic care focuses on treating all of your joints and muscles, including your mid back.
There are two types of MBP or Thoracic pain. Injury, trauma or overuse cause mechanical mid back pain. Non-mechanical mid back pain is due to underlying pathology or disease.

- sprain/strain

- postural syndrome
Causes of non-mechanical thoracic pain are:
- osteoid osteoma
- Scheuermann’s Disease
- T4 Syndrome
- herpes zoster
- osteoporosis
- fibromyalgia
- metastasis
- referred pain from viscera
What to expect at your appointment for a complaint of mid back pain:
